Today we remember the saint and scholar

Today is the Urs or haul of Khawajah Moinudin Chisty. A great Islamic Sufi sage and saint which had contributed alot to the spread of Islam in India. He was born in 1141 and died in 1230 CE at in a place called Chisti, somewhere between Iran and Afghanistan. He traveled from Afghanistan to the subcontinent of South Asia, India. He was also known Gharib Nawaz, meaning Benefactor of the Poor'. He was an ahlul bayt, a descendant of Prophet Muhammad s.a..w through Syaidina Jafaar Assadiq r.a.. He grew up in Persia. His parents died when he was only fifteen years old. He inherited a windmill and an orchard from his father. During his childhood, he was different from others and kept himself busy in prayers and meditation. I first attended the haul back 9 years ago, how time flies. During that time, I didnt know what to expect cause i was with my good friend who I also consider him as guide along my journey. Sidi Muhsin invited me to tag along with his grandfather Shaykh Ibrahim.

I still remembered it was the late Feisal Marican's dad whom was reciting the poetry about Khawjah Moinudin Chisti. One part it was something like Khawajah Moinudin salamualayi. Though today such Indian sufi gathering is rare, I still missing those moment of the yesteryear majlis. Today, we also received sad news on the death of our great local Ulama Ustaz Osman Jantan. I remembered attending his tauhid class. And he explained to us when i was young the different category of knowledge such as tassawuf, fiqh and tauhid. All these didnt exist during the time of Prophet s.a.w. but came a light cause the Ulama realize the important of compartmentalize different type of knowledge...may Allah bless him for his enormous contributions to the Muslim society. al fateha for Khawajah Moinudin Chisti and Ustaz Osman Jantan
